Mangaluru: Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar informed that there will no longer be any “Containment Zones”, and if a person tests positive for Covid-19, then only their residence will be sealed.

Speaking after a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday, June 3, he said that only those who have symptoms of the novel coronavirus infection will be subjected to Covid-19 tests hereafter. “The district administration will no longer quarantine those coming from Maharashtra and other states. Those who arrive from other states will be quarantined in their own homes for a period of 14 days,” he said.

Dr Sudhakar added, “There is no need to worry about the disease, but we should take utmost care. Though it is a big challenge to society, we should handle it with care and not sideline those who are infected.”

During the meeting, the Minister also took to task the private medical colleges which did not undertake sample testing. “Though the Dakshina Kannada district has eight medical colleges, only four are undertaking sample testing. Why are the other four medical colleges not assisting the district administration?” he questioned and warned of halting their admission process if they don’t start sample testing.
