Konaje: “We need to keep all the options open in our life and once in 15 years we need to rework and invent new options in life. Along with expertise in our basic profession, we must also inculcate interest in acting skills”, said prominent Malayalam and Marathi film director Prakash Bare, here on Tuesday, April 9.

He spoke after the inauguration of a two-day state level film festival under the title ‘Reflexion 2019’, organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mangalore University in collaboration with the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.

Prakash said, “There should not be any pressure from anyone on us to have a selective approach towards any field of art or entertainment. Instead, we need to have our own freedom of choice, especially when it comes to watching a cinema. Film festivals will help in this aspect and also the prevalent social media will guide us to freely watching cinemas, irrespective of genres.”

President of the programme, Mangalore University In-charge Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishori Nayak K said, “The commercial films are dominating nowadays. These kinds of festivals must stand up as a challenge to such films. We must inculcate the quality of questioning, irrespective of the field, if we want change.”

National Award winner ‘Gubbachigalu’ fame director Abhaya Simha was the chief guest of the programme.

Journalism and Mass Communication Head of the Department (HoD) Prof. P L Dharma, guest lecturer Shashidhar Manchi and Student Convenor of the programme Sandeep K were present.

Student Charan compered the programme.

Later, ‘Paddayi’, a movie directed by Abhaya Simha was screened and a discussion and interaction on it was held.

Movies like Shuddhi, Ammachi Yemba Nenapu and others were also screened.
