Nonagenarian votes despite severe physical, mental agony

Mangaluru: A 90-year-old elderly person, Damodar Nayak Kalyanpur residing in Mannagudda, cast his vote despite a severe condition.

You may ask what is new in that? But, this elderly person has cast his vote inspite of a critical head surgery incurred last week. Besides that, he lost his wife just a day ago, that is on Wednesday, April 17. However, he went to the Mannagudda polling booth and exercised his democratic right.

Nayak showed that casting vote is not only about selecting a candidate, but it is a responsibility of every citizen of the country. Nayak still runs a spare parts business (Ashok Industries) along with his son near central market.

He had a critical head surgery last week, which he overcame with his will power. But unfortunately, he had to receive another shock as his wife breathed her last due to age-related illness on Wednesday.

Even in grief, he motivated many to vote and also informed his children and grandchildren who had attended the final rites of his wife, to go back to their respective constituencies and vote.

While many youngsters are going on vacations and giving several reasons for not voting, this 90-year-old elderly person is really an inspiration.
