Mangaluru: Following the announcement of Youth Congress leaders’ resignation, more than 80 NSUI members followed suit on April 18.
The move by the members of the student wing of Congress has worsened the troubles of the party over the denial of ticket to the Youth Congress President Mithun Rai to contest from Moodbidri.
At a press conference held in the city on April 18, NSUI State General Secretary Roopesh Rai lauded Mithun’s role in organising the students and youth in the district. He said that the strong leadership skills of Mithun were instrumental in establishing a strong base for Congress among the youth. He said, “Mithun is our role model. We (Congress) have been growing because of the efforts of Rai to build the party from the ground level.”
The NSUI leader expressed his solidarity for Mithun and said that the student members were ready to follow him in whatever he decides.
Recalling Mithun’s early political career that started with NSUI, Roopesh said that giving ticket to this youth leader would have boosted the morale of the youth and students in the district. He requested the Congress High Command to reconsider the decision.
Sachin Kulai, Suman Shetty, Abhishek Ullal, Joshua and other NSUI members were present.
