Mangaluru: In order to provide medical, legal and police help to women under one roof, a one-stop centre was inaugurated in the Pandeshwar Women’s Police Station premises on Wednesday, July 17.

A senior-most woman assistant police sub-inspector Sathyavathi and a junior most police officer Yogeshwari inaugurated this centre. Though this centre was started in a temporary building, measures have been already taken to start it in a separate building. There will be a lawyer, doctor, police and counsellor to help the distressed women. Though a lawyer and doctor will be available on call now, they would be appointed permanently here within few days.

This centre aims to support women who are affected by violence in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at the workplace. The initiative intends to provide support, remedy and specialised services to women facing physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economic abuse, irrespective of their age, class, caste, education status, marital status, race and culture.

After the inauguration of the centre, Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said that the intention of the centre is to provide all help under one roof. Women who are in distress must make use of its benefits properly, he informed.

DCPs Hanumantharaya (Law and Order), Lakshmi Ganesh (Crime and Traffic), Traffic ACP Manjunath Shetty among others were present.
