Sullia: Onion prices have hit rock bottom in the recent past. With no takers for the crop, the traders are maximising their profits, but of course with a lot of efforts. One trader purchased 2.5 tons of onions from a farmer in Chikkamagalur for further selling purposes in Sullia. But he never dreamt of selling such huge quantity in just two hours time!
The simple advertisement read ‘5Kg onions for Rs 40’, which was good enough to draw all buyers towards him. The news of ‘onion mela’ on a ‘moble kart’ (mini truck) spread like wild fire and people started rushing towards it. People came from every nook and corner and purchased quantities that they couldn’t carry back home.
Traffic cops rushed in and cleared the blocked traffic due to this. The seller sold his entire stock of 2.5 tons of onions in two hours, beating Amazon and Flip kart, for a change!
For once onions didn’t result in people shedding tears. The grower’s fate is not known at this moment but buyers enjoyed a ‘spot deal’ for sure, which will be remembered by Sullia for days to come!
