Mangaluru: The online book release of Cyber Safe Girl v4.0 took place on Thursday July 1 at 11 am on the google meet platform.
The book was released by Chairperson of National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma and Member, Shyamala Kunder.
The book is authored by Dr. Ananth Prabhu, PhD, PDF and co-authored by Adv. Prashanth Jhala and Deputy Superintendent of Police Yashawanta Kumar K. M.
Speaking to News Karnataka on the intention behind releasing such a book, Dr. Ananth Prabhu said, “we wanted the netizens to understand the basic rules of responsible browsing.” He explained that the idea was started in 2017 which resulted in the release of Cyber Safe Girl v1.0 which contained 15 stories of cybercrimes and explanations on how to stay protected in the internet. Following this, Versions 2 and 3 was released with 25 and 30 stories respectively.
“In this version 4, we have included 40 crime stories that are represented as infotoons which makes it easier for the reader to understand. Each story has a message attached to it,” explained Dr. Ananth. He went on to say that the IT ACT, IPC and other relevant acts applicable for each of these crimes, practical tips to protect oneself from the cybercrimes, practical steps to be taken while browsing the internet and so on are described in the book.
Dr Ananth said that the book includes a glossary which contains the technical cyber jargons and its explanation so that the common man can understand. “We have also included common cyber attacks so that more people can know about this,” he said.
“With the rise in technology, there comes a lot of advantages and disadvantages. When people come to know about the penalties and the consequences of cybercrimes, they will make sure to use technology only to their benefit,” he added.
