Open manhole turns death trap for 45-year-old man in Surathkal

Mangaluru: In a clear case of gross negligence by the officials and people’s representatives, a 45-year-old man died after falling into an open manhole under construction here at Krishnapur in Surathkal on February 11.

The victim has been identified as Mohan, a resident of Krishnapur II block in Surathkal.

Reportedly, the incident occurred while Mohan was returning home. He fell into the manhole that was under construction, and sustained injuries to his head. Immediately, he was rushed to a private hospital in Surathkal, after he was moved to a hospital in the city due to his critical condition.

However, he failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.

The Surathkal police have registered a case.

After the incident, Mangaluru North constituency MLA Moideen Bhava visited the hospital and met with the kin of the victim and assured of taking proper action against the contractor.
