Opening Kerala border: K’taka to take a call soon

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district administration has said that a decision with regard to opening the sealed border between Karnataka and Kerala, at Talapady will be taken up soon after seeking directions from Karnataka state government.

It may be recalled that after the outbreak of Covid-19, Karnataka sealed its borders, including Talapdy, considering the fact that large number of cases were being reported from Kerala.

However, though the lockdown rules were relaxed, the inter-state border at Talapdy and Jalsur in Sullia remain closed.

There are 21 roads, which connect Dakshina Kannada district with Kasargod district. Thousands of people who are living in border areas of both Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts need to travel to both districts for livelihood have been in lurch after the borders were closed.

Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary has informed that both Karnataka and Kerala states should agree to keep their borders open for inter-district movement.

“As there was demand to keep open the roads at Talapady and Jalsur for emergency movement, it has been kept open for two-wheelers, pedestrians and those who obtained passes. We will considering opening the roads completely after holding talks with the government,” Kota said.
