Opt bicycles to save fuel, environment: IGP Arun Chakravarthy

Mangaluru: Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Arun Chakravathy urged people to not opt bicycles only for passion, but use them with a purpose of saving fuel and environmental.

He was addressing the gathering during the annual day celebration of Mangaluru Bicycle Club (MBC) at Sahodaya Hall, in Balmatta on Sunday, May 5. 

The IGP said that due to the reckless driving of some people, pedestrians and even careful drivers fall victims. 

Meanwhile, he shared some of his personal experiences on cycling. He asked the organisations like Bicycle Club to create awareness on traffic guidelines among the public. 

He handed over senior bicycle rider Nobert D’Souza’s  ‘Trek 1.5’ bicycle to 15-year-old bicycle rider named Guleid Jamakhandi in Bagalkot district.

Nobert D’Souza is also intending to donate his another bicycle ‘Carbon Road Bike Trek Madone’ to the winners of national cycling championship, which will be held soon.

Meanwhile, cyclists Hariprasad, Srikanthraj and Masood, who emerged as winners in ‘Ultra Spice Race’ organised by MBC recently, shared their experiences on the occasion. The members of MBC like Dr Suneetha Mendis, Madhura Jain and Gururaj Patil also shared their experiences as the members of MBC. The winners in various competitions organised by the MBC were also received awards on the occasion.

MBC president Dijaraj Nair presided over the programme. General secretary Ganesh Nayak, joint secretary Madhukar, member Jahir Mannippadi among others were present.
