Outgoing Mayor Kavitha Sanil recounts her achievements

Mangaluru: In her last press meet as the mayor, Kavitha Sanil, on March 7, claimed that she had given a corruption free administration in her tenure. She also thanked the people of Mangaluru for their support and cooperation during her tenure as mayor.

Addressing a press meet at her office in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), Kavitha Sanil said that as mayor she had sanction over Rs 180 Crore for the various developmental works in the city.

Listing out the works carried out, Kavitha said, “As promised to the people when I assumed the Mayor’s office, I have given a good administration without any corruption. When I took office, the city was facing acute water shortage but I have successfully handled the problem. At present, we have maintained the water level at 6 feet in Thumbe vented dam as I had promised earlier. In a first, five public e-toilets have also been commissioned in the city.”

The outgoing mayor also added that she had given importance to maintenance and development of parks in the city. “I have immediately responded to public grievances. We have taken action to address the problems of the city, however, we couldn’t sort out all of them”, she said.

“As per the demand from the theatre and Yakshagana artistes, I have taken an initiative to reduce the rent of Town Hall. Risking my life, I have made sincere efforts to stop skill games and massage centres in the city. But due to certain legal obstacles, it was not possible completely. I have received several threat calls from abroad for raiding skill games and massage parlours”, she added.

She also said that her dream of constructing a clock tower in the city had materialised now. MCC has also spent Rs 2.325 Crore for Indira Canteen, he added.

She promised that she would work towards the development of the city as she continues as a corporator in MCC.

Deputy Mayor Rajanish, Corporator Shashidar Hegde and Sabitha Misquith were present at the press meet.
