Mangaluru: The police department is planning to install over 6,000 CCTV cameras in city in the near future for security purposes. Due to this, the key places in the city would come under the surveillance of the CCTV cameras soon.

While installing CCTV cameras, the police department is emphasising on its quality as the substandard cameras do not capture clear image. Hence, the department is planning to install high resolution (1920 X 1080) cameras to ensure that images in the dark are also captured.

A few days ago, the police department had installed a  total of 210 additional CCTV cameras in public places along with the existing 1,830. Now, in order to beef up security, it has decided to install over 6,000 cameras in the key points of the city.

It may be noted that many theft cases were left unsolved as the police failed to trace the culprits either due to the absence of CCTV cameras or by the poor quality of the footage. Hence, the department decided to install good quality CCTV  cameras, this time.

Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil informed that while buying cameras, onus will be more on their quality. He also added that cameras would be installed in both public and commercial buildings in the city.
