Belthangady: There was a huge traffic congestion on Charmadi Ghat, the only direct highway open for traffic to reach Karnataka hinterland from the district, after a lorry overturned on the road on Saturday, August 18. Thousands of vehicles were trapped on the highway.
The incident occurred at the tenth curve of the Charmadi Ghat road. Some of the vehicles were reportedly moving towards Kottigehara while those heading towards Mangaluru and Dharmasthala are stranded. Buses travelling to Mangaluru and Udupi are delayed.
Traffic movement on the Charmadi Ghat route has considerably increased ever since the Sampaje and Shiradi ghats are closed to traffic following massive rains and landslides.
