Mangaluru: Former minister and Chairman of Vikas Group of Educational Institutions Krishna J Palemar, urged the government to provide approval for the Hostel Management Diploma Course.
Speaking to reporters at Patrika Bhavan on Monday, October 1, Palemar said, “Vikas Educational Institution has planned to initiate a new diploma course of one year in Hostel Management and applied for approval from the government around seven months ago. However, the government has not approved the proposal so far. As the incidents of suicide are going up in the recent days, hostel wardens should have awareness on tackling the situation”, he said.
Informing on why Vikas College has been planning to start a course in hostel management, Palemar said, “As per the statistics of 2016, every 15 minutes, one student commits suicide in India. A total of 26,476 students have committed suicide between 2014 and 2017. As students who are staying in the hostels are deprived of the love of their parents, they should be treated very carefully. Hence, it is necessary for the hostel wardens to have some important tips. As this hostel management diploma course prepares a person to easily handle the students in the hostel, the government should immediately approve the proposal”, he urged.
Vikas Educational Institution trustee J Koragappa, Adviser Dr. Ananth Prabhu and Dr. Manjula Rao were present.
