Mangaluru: The new year is just around the corner and everyone is gearing up for the year end parties that have been planned in various areas of the city. In view of the upcoming festivities, for the safety of the public and for the sake of maintaining law and order, Police Commissioner T R Suresh has issued strict guidelines to be adhered to during the new year’s eve celebrations.

Commissioner Suresh has instructed that partying in open places is strictly prohibited in the Mangaluru City Police limits. Hotels, restaurants, clubs and other institutions have also been instructed to hold their parties indoors. He has also said that all parties should conclude by 12 am.

Bars and restaurants are instructed to seek permission from the Excise department if they wish to extend the time limit for serving alcoholic drinks, and a copy of this permission letter has to be submitted to the police station. However, the Commissioner has instructed that no drinks should be served after 12 am.

All those who wish to hold parties indoors, are required to apply for permission. Action will be taken against those who hold parties without obtaining prior permission for the same.

Consumption of alcohol and smoking in public places such as bus-stands, railway stations, public parks, and stadiums is prohibited. The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, have to be followed in case loudspeakers are to be used. Organizing any activities near the seashore is prohibited. Organizers are requested to make sure that no untoward incidents occur during celebrations.

No liquor should be served to individuals below 18 years of age. The organizers should make parking arrangements for the vehicles during the celebrations. Any vehicles parked on the roads will invite strict action against the owner.

Strict action will be taken against those who create nuisance or those indulging in nude or semi nude dances. A task force has been formed in order to take action against harassment in the form of forceful new year’s greetings to passers by, general public and particularly women.
