Pending wages: BSNL contract workers from Bantwal to boycott LS polls

Bantwal: Contract labours of the BSNL Bantwal Telephone Exchange have decided to boycott Lok Sabha polls along with their respective family members as their six months wages are pending.

The contract labourers held a press meeting at the BC Road press club and informed the reporters about their decisions.

Bantwal Taluk BSNL contract labourer Hamid, speaking to presspersons said that the contract worker are working in the BSNL Telephone Exchange of Bantwal since 20 years. Their wages are pending from October 2018 to March 2019.

Many of them told reporters that they are finding it very difficult to live without money. They have already given written requests to BSNL officials and urged them to release their wages immediately. They have also sent their requests to the Labour Commissioner, ministers, MPs and the Prime Minister, but there is no response so far. The contract workers are now saying that there is no one to listen to their hardships.

There are 580 contract workers in Dakshina Kannada working for the BSNL. None of these workers have received their wages. Therefore we have decided to boycott the Lok Sabha polls along with our families said labourers, they said.
They have warned the BSNL authorities that they will not attend work from April 1, 2019, till their wages are paid off.

Yashodhara, Honnayya, Sunil and Manohar were the labourers present in the press meet.
