Mangaluru: Former union minister and Congress leader Anand Sharma on May 4, said that the countdown for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government had begun.

Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here Anand Sharma said, “In 2019, people will bid a farewell to Modi and his government. Ever since he became the prime minister in 2014, Modi has sold only dreams and hopes. Perhaps he has created a world record for a head of a government for habitual peddling of untruth and lies.”

Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “Sapnon ka Saudagar” (merchant of dreams), Anand Sharma said, “PM has lost credibility by betraying the people of India. Instead of asking votes in Karnataka, Prime Minster Narendra Modi should apologise for not fulfilling what he had promised in 2014 such as giving false assurance to farmers, 2 Crore new jobs for the youth.

“Congress leadership had taken prompt action against the ministers even though there were unsubstantiated charges of corruption. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not taken any action against the BJP’s chief ministers even when they are facing serious charges of corruption”, he alleged.

On the prime minister’s suggestion to educated youth to sell ‘pakodas’, Sharma said, “Our young people are educated and ambitious. But they were betrayed by the prime minister in whom they trusted. The prime minster thinks that the country has two laws-one for his opponents and the other for his friends and well wishers.”

“The CBI, Income Tax and Vigilance departments have been used against political opponents. The PM misused the same agencies to protect his corrupt friends. This is the government whose foundations are lies, deceit and propaganda.”

“BJP President Amit Shah and Narendra Modi have fooled the people of this country”, he added.

“The prime minister should come out with a white paper on–how many police stations were opened for safety of women? Why the crime has increased? Will the prime minister initiate action against the culprits of Kathua and Unnao? Why the people’s money has been plundered? Why PM doesn’t talk about Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi?”, he said.
