PIlikula biological park gets a new inmate, ‘Kaveri hippo’

Mangaluru: The Pilikula Biological Park, considered to be among the major zoos in the country, has welcomed a new member – a female hippopotamus – to its fold.

Aged around 10 years, Kaveri an African origin hippopotamus was brought to the park on Thursday from Bannerghatta Biological Park, Bengaluru and will shortly be accompanied by two more of her kind , a male and a female hippopotamus.

The Pilikula Biological Park currently has about 1,200 animals and birds. Further the park will be receiving a female tiger, one female common langur, as well as ten night heron birds from Bannerghatta Biological Park in exchange for a male Bengal tiger, one male common langur, eight golden jackals (four male), two common palm civet cats (one male), four barking deers (two male) and four red jungle fowls.
