Sullia: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has responded to the plea of a fourth standard girl, who had expressed about wild elephant menace in the surroundings of her hometown Mandekolu.
In her hand written letter dated 10 October 2016, Nikitha, a 4th standard girl studying in Gajanana English medium school at Eshwaramangala had highlighted several problems. She listed her difficulties of going to school and returning in fear everyday, crop losses due to wild elephant attacks and loss of lives over the years.
In response, the PMO wrote to the Karnataka State Chief Secretary on October 21 asking him to address the issue on priority. Accordingly, forest officials led by Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) visited her and met villagers to collect all relevant details.
They have assured of digging more trenches in the area to prevent wild elephants from invading human habitats.
Incidentally, the little girl hails from Mandekolu, the native place of Central Minister D V Sadananda Gowda. The town in news on several previous occasions over elephant attacks has once again hogged the limelight, for reasons well known.
Meanwhile, forest officials are of the view that the number of attacks have fallen in the recent past after the department dug many trenches.
