Mangaluru: Following frequent complaints against private buses, the police department has already furnished some important documents to the Road Transport Office (RTO) to cancel their permit.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police T R Suresh revealed this matter during the weekly phone-in-programme held at his office on Friday, October 5. While responding to a query of a caller on violation of traffic guidelines by the city police, Suresh said police could only file a complaint in this regard. The power of canceling the permit vests only with RTO, he explained. A meeting will be convened shortly by inviting bus owners and RTO inorder to take appropriate measures in this regard, he said.

Complaints against city buses with regard to non-issuing of tickets, rude behavior of staff with the passengers among others are very common during the weekly phone-in-programme. It may be recalled that Commissioner Suresh strictly warned the bus drivers and owners of stringent action during the last phone-in-programme. Now he seems to be sticking to his words.

Callers also complained against truck drivers and lorry drivers saying that though deploying a conductor is compulsory, none work in some of the lorries. The issue of discharging of wastewater into the road by the fish carrying lorries also came up in the meeting, to which Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth assured of taking proper action in the coming days.
