Police nab three in assault case, prevent communal tension

Bantwal: Three youth involved in an assault case were nabbed by police and produced in court on December 20.The timely police action prevented communal tension in the area.Abdul Nawaf (19), Mohammad Sajaf (20) and Ibrahim Khaleel (20) all residents of Devasya Mittanadka were nabbed by the police in nick of time.

A few members of Hindu community had cleaned a place for a religious function (pooja) near Mittanadka and had asked passersby including bikers to move slowly without raising dust. Irked by the stricture, accused Khaleel and his accomplice Nawaf assaulted Rajesh with an iron rod.

A complaint was registered accusing them of abusing Rajesh on religious grounds and later assaulting Ramesh who came in between to settle the dispute.

The accused in the meantime got admitted to a government hospital with an intention of filing a counter complaint. Later they shifted to Mangaluru hospital after realising that police were planning their arrest.

In the meantime, Hindu Jagrana Vedike (HJV) activists issued an ultimatum to arrest the accused by December 20, failing which they threatened of intensifying protests.

Police who sensed the situation turning communal, arrested all the accused and produced them in the court.

The team led by Bantwal Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravish accompanied by Bantwal Circle inspector Manjaiah and Vittal sub-inspector Nagaraj succeeded in apprehending the accused.
