Police open tear gas and lathi charge violent right wing activists

Kasaragod: Police opened tear gas shells and resorted to lathi charge to restore peace in Talipadu on the outskirts of the city on April 9. Activists started pelting stones at moving vehicles during a protest which led to tough police action.

State Yuva Morcha General Secretary P A Harish Kumar and many others were injured in the police action.

Activists obstructed vehicles heading towards Mangaluru airport. When police arrived, the activists turned violent and started pelting stones at will. Police immediately opened tear gas and caned the protestors to disperse them and contain the tense situation.

Though vehicles carrying essential commodities were exempted from the strike, certain activists pelted stones at them too. Many vehicles were damaged in the stone pelting.

Injured have been admitted to hospitals in Kasaragod.
