Mangaluru: Hours after Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader Ashraf (30) was hacked to death in broad daylight at Benjanapadavu of Bantwal, the Dakshina Kannada Police deployed tight security in sensitive areas of Bantwal Taluk.
IGP Harishekaran told the press that if anyone was found carrying the lethal weapons police will book them under “Goonda Act.”
“I have taken the complete responsibility of bandobust and investigation regarding repeated untoward incidents since one month. Challenging the police department, some untoward incidents are taking place repeatedly in recent days. We will not allow such things to occur again. The organisations pertaining to caste and religion should work to protect the peace and harmony of the society. If there is any issue or doubt, organisation leaders can directly approach me”, he added.
“To bring the situation under control, security has been deployed in the places like Kalladka, Mani, B C Road, Kaikamba, Farangipete and Bantwal limits. It is our duty to protect the property and people and public should cooperate with the police”, he appealed. He also said that nothing should be seen from a communal perspective. Additional police forces have also been called from Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts.
Already 10 DAR and KSRP forces are deployed.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. K G Jagadish has extended prohibitory orders till June 27 in Bantwal, Belthangady, Puttur and Sullia.
