Belthangady: A conflict between two student groups ended in a lathi charge by the police, who arrested nine students after the fact.
Reportedly, on Saturday morning, two students of a private college got into a conflict over a cell phone message regarding the BJP and the Congress. The two were admitted to a hospital soon after.
Following the incident, later that evening, 15 members of the CFI and PFI started protesting at the Belthangady bus stand premises and shouting ‘zindabad’ without prior permission from the police.
When the police confronted them and tried to get them to stop, the protesters tried to attack the them. This prompted the police to resort to lahti charge in self-defence. Nine of the protesters were arrested and the remaining got away.
An enquiry into the incident is now underway.
