Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumatharaya said on Friday that stern action would be taken against those private money lenders who charge exorbitant interests and harass their debtors.

He was speaking at the one-hour phone-in programme held at the Police Commissioner’s Office here on July 13.

He was replying to a personal grievance from a lady that a money lender from the city was extorting exorbitant interests from her by harassing her. In her complaint, the lady said that most of the monthly income goes to repaying the interest amount for the loan.

DCP also informed that there is a provision under the law to take action against those private money lenders who charged exorbitant interests to debtors. He also asked the lady to file a complaint and give particulars of the private money lender.

A caller from Kottara Chowki also complained that lack of “No Parking” boards and the vehicles parked indiscriminately were creating inconvenience to the pedestrians at Kottara Chowki. To this, the DCP instructed the officials concerned to install the “No Parking” signboards in Kottara Chowki at the earliest.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth, ACP Manjunath Shetty and others were present.
