Mangaluru: Taking a dig at former Union Minister B Janardhana Poojary, Janata Dal (Secular) MLA Madhu Bangarappa said that the former was equally responsible for the communal discord in Dakshina Kannada just like the RSS, BJP and Congress.

Stating that Poojary was “out of his mind”, commenting on his remark that Bangarappa had tried to assault Indira Gandhi, in his autobiography “Salamelada Sangrama”, Madhu Bangarappa said that his father was a straight forward man, who would never assault anyone. The message conveyed in the book is wrong as Bangarappa shared a harmonious relationship with Indira Gandhi, said Madhu, adding that he was not defending his father as a son but as his follower. Madhu also said that Bangarappa had been his guide and mentor.

He added that when the Indira Gandhi-led Congress had lost power, it was Bangarappa who continued to support the former Prime Minister. Upon being selected as KPCC president, Bangarappa managed to win 27 of the 28 MP seats from the state. He was then promoted as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

On the other side, Poojary has had a “record streak” at losing elections.

On corruption allegations levelled by Poojary against Bangarappa in his book, Madhu said that the court had acquitted Bangarappa in all the three cases of corruption, after an 18-year battle, prior to his death.

He also called the book a pot of sins and not an autobiography that was released in the presence of RSS leaders like Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat. This shows that Poojary is a true RSS person, he alleged, later ridiculing him to the extent that he might be “sporting the RSS shorts in his pants.”

Madhu also questioned why no action had been taken against Prabhakar Bhat even though he has 8 cases against him?

“The Billawa community youths are dying in communal violence. Has Poojary guided them in the right direction? But, Poojary has not shed tears for his community youths who became pawns in the hands of communal forces. How many people has he helped develop as good leaders?”, attacked Madhu.

On the Gau Mutra cleansing process undertaken by the BJP members at places visited by Prakash Rai/Raj, Madhu said that they should bathe Ananth Hegde with cow urine for his remarks on changing the Constitution.

On Modi’s recent visit to Bengaluru, he questioned why the Prime Minister maintained silence on the burning issue of the Mahadayi.

JD(S) district President Mohammed Kunhi, Akshith Suvarna, Ashwitn J Perira, and Vasanth Poojary were present during the press meet.
