Mangaluru: Receiving praise from someone, or even a pat on the back is a welcome gesture and a big ego booster, especially when everyone else around you is trying to bring you down.
Rajdeep Sardesai, a popular journalist and anchor who has been a presence on various news channels since 1994, has never been known to mince his words and always speaks his mind.
Recently in a tweet that has been going viral, Sardesai praised incumbent MLA J R Lobo saying, “Finally met a candidate in Karnataka whose assets haven’t increased after becoming an MLA, who doesn’t seek votes on caste or religion, is seen to run a truly ‘secular’ campaign: John Lobo, retired Govt servant and Mangalore south MLA, should be a role model! #ElectionsOnMyPlate”.

While one section of the Twitteratti agreed with the tweet, another section was quick to counter the journalist’s claims. This split in opinion however, is not new and is not a testament to the truth of anyone’s character. For as long as statements have been made, there have been those to support it and those to oppose it.
Still, praise from a renowned figure such as Sardesai cannot just be swept under the rug or dismissed due to bias.
John Richard Lobo, known to the masses more commonly as J R Lobo, was born in the Kolambe Village in Mangaluru Taluk. He is a B.Sc and B.Ed graduate and has been in the service of the people since 1977.
Between 1977 and 1989, he served as Tahsildar of Madikeri, Koppa, Somawarpet and Puttur Taluk. Lobo soon rose up the ranks and in the 2013 Karnataka State Assembly elections, he was elected from the Mangaluru South Constituency.
When reached for a comment about Sardesai’s tweet, MLA Lobo told NewsKarnataka, “I’m very happy. Seeing that someone of his (Sardesai) stature has said something like that about me makes me feel very happy and proud.”
