Mangaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson P V Mohan has urged the state government not to conduct the SSLC exams in June, stating that handling of the COVID-19 cases would become a big challenge.

Speaking to the media, Mohan said that medical experts have opined that June and July will play a decisive role in curtailing the spread of the deadly COVID-19.

“As it has been predicted that the cases would go up in the rainy season, there would be a need to extend the lockdown. In such a situation, why should the government conduct SSLC examinations hastily?” he questioned.

“In the month of March, there were only 657 cases in 130 districts. But now, the disease has spread to 401 districts in the entire country and the total number of cases has gone up drastically. Hence, handling COVID-19 will be a big challenge. For this purpose, the SSLC examinations should be postponed and it should be conducted only after the cases fall,” Mohan suggested.

He also asked the government to take appropriate action against tuition fee hike in schools and colleges. “Even though education minister Suresh Kumar asked the private schools not to increase the fees, several schools have already filled their seats online by demanding more fees,” he said, asking the government to take measures to prevent medical colleges from charging more fees from the students.
