PR should not misguide audience: Srinivasa Pejathaya

Mangaluru: Public Relation Council of India and Young Communicators’ Club organised the 11th webinar on PR and Managing Perception on Saturday April 30. This webinar was conducted in the memory of Naresh Kumar.

Spearhead Media Private Limited Editor-in-Chief Srinivasa Pejathaya and Add – Idea Consulting and Publicity LLP Founder and CEO Venu Sharma were the speakers at the webinar.

Srinivasa Pejathaya presented his seminar on Persona Redefined (PR). He said that “both truth and credibility is important but PR must understand what should be projected or focused. The persona must be based on the beliefs that the targeted audience gives more stress on. Unless PR believes in himself, the audience do not trust him. The important aspect always is that PR must tell the truth. If it is not possible the PR should not misguide or tell lies to the audience. Researchers have brought out 17 criteria to define or redefine persona credibility index. The businesswire prediction happening in PR industry are:

1. Research and AI
2. Importance of Internal communication
3. Worldwide collaboration
4. Authenticity in communication
5. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

The mind mapping or mind reading is the part of PR industry and for that a PR needs artificial intelligence. PR person should know what to speak and what not to speak. The internal communication is required in the industry. PRs are the main communicators of the company, he stressed.

Another speaker Venu Sharma said that, “Perception management is very important aspect of PR industry. The perception will change by the time and person to person. It must be in mind of PR. We need to work on perception management, he said.

“Community-wise, and sector-wise strategy have to be done. The perception depends on our way of speaking, behaviour, dressing style and many others. The perception has to build on the package.

In the conversation hour Venu Sharma answered the question raised by one of the jury member with regard to whether the public relation can change a human being. Sharma said, “We can’t say whether it is ethical or legal. We must only concentrate on the effect. Every company must have Chief Information Officer. This department reminds the social responsibility of an entrepreneur, he said. Mind counts the experience rather than listening, emphasised Srinivasa Pejathaya.

G. S. Bawa, B. K. Ravi, Yogesh Joshi, Frederick Michael, Vipin Kharbanda, Rama Vijay, and Babu Joseph were the jury members. Elephant Design Co-founder Ashwini Deshpande participated as the celebrity jury.

PRCI Chief Mentor and Chairman Emeritus, MB Jayaram, national president, Dr. T. Vinay Kumar, event coordinator, K Ravindran, national and state executive body members of PRCI, chairman and members of various chapters were participated.

The webinar was live streamed on Zoom. Ananya Hegde was the moderator of the event. Hannah compered the webinar.
