Mangaluru: As an initiative to promote literacy in Government run schools, Mangalorean firm ‘Prasanna Technologies’ has taken a stand to do their bit.

The firm is sure to make it large in celebrating the 50th anniversary of International Literacy Day as they have already conducted various activities in many districts of Karnataka to start with.

On Wednesday, September 7, the employees and employers of Prasanna Technologies got together as always to make a difference in the education system at Mannagudda Government Primary School. Just as the clock struck 9, the students assembled at the campus ground, where they were given an insight into how studies can be of utmost importance in the present world.

It was definitely not hard to draw the attention of the little ones towards the celebration of International Literacy Day as their head teacher spoke to them and invited some children on stage to sing and perform while the others applauded away to glory. This is when the children were told about the importance of education while their enthusiasm and playfulness made them immerse in attention.

“Just as how a small shrub grows into a tree, you children must nurture yourself into growing to be a huge tree and support others around you. As you climb the ladder of life, there are times when you will fall, but that should not stop you from getting back on your feet and moving”, said their teacher Aruna Kumari before watering a sapling symbolizing that she will nurture her students just like what she did to the plant.

Aruna did manage to humour the children while delivering a strong message too. She said, “It takes same letters to form word Sakshar (literate) and Rakshas (demon). It is upto us as to what we want to become.”

When asked if these educational activities came under their Corporate Social Responsibility activities, Subodh Shetty, Managing Director of Prasanna Technologies told newskarnataka.com that it was entirely the initiative of his employees. “My employees got this collective idea about community service and they wanted to make a difference. Since then, we have conducted various different activities like blood donations and getting study materials ready for Government school children. All this without the use of company funds but only collecting funds within themselves”, he said.

Subodh and his employees have a lot more activities coming up in the future days. They have also scripted content and created some graphics like connecting the dots, colouring and puzzles for the children of as many as 130 Government schools all over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Bengaluru and Hubballi. 250 employees have pledged to support the activities from Prasanna Technologies.
