Moodbidri: One of the accused in the infamous murder of Prashanth Poojary, was attacked this morning by bike-borne men.
Imthiaz, the victim of the attack, is an accused in the murder of flower seller, Bajrang Dal member and Hindutva activist, Prashanth Poojary.
The attack took place at around 5.30 am at Gantalkatte near Moodbidri. Imthiaz has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru and is out of danger.
Moodbidru police arrived at the crime scene soon after and began their investigation.
Ironically, 29-year-old Prashanth Poojary was murdered by six bike-borne men on October 9, 2015, allegedly for his activism against the illegal slaughter of cows. His murder caused a major stir in the district and many people speculated that the murder was carried out to provoke communal disharmony in the region.
Soon after the murder, police arrested eight people, all from the Popular Front of India (PFI), a radical Islamic organisation.
On November 10, 2016, an undertrial accused in the case, Mustafa Kavoor (29) was stabbed to death at the central jail in Mysuru by another inmate. In June 2017 four of the accused, Akbar Valachil (30), Siraj Ullal (28), Anwar Bajpe and Tajuddin Bajpe surrendered themselves in the Moodbidri court and confessed to the crime.
In all, there were 17 accused in the case, 10 of whom were arrested.
