Pregnant woman dies at Govt hospital, family allege medical negligence

Mangaluru: A pregnant woman on Tuesday died allegedly due to negligence of doctors at a government hospital in Vitla here triggering protest by family members.

Girija(28), wife of Ramesh (30) resident of Poorluppady in Vittal Padnur village is the deceased. She was brought to the government-run hospital here by her family on Tuesday, for delivery.

District Health Officer Ramakrishna Rao speaking to sources said that Girija was admitted at the hospital for delivery. Doctors at the hospital administered dextrose for inducing pain. Around 8.30 p.m. doctors noticed Girija having convulsions. Immediately arrangements were made to send her in the 108 ambulance to the Government Wenlock Hosptial.Girija died before reaching the Wenlock Hospital.

Family members alleged that medical negligence led to Girija and her unborn child’s death. However Vittal SI Prakash Devadiga rushed to the spot to convince the agitators. After heated arguments with the hospital staff, family members agreed for autopsy of Girija at Wenlock Hospital.

Dr. Rao said an inquiry will be conducted to find lapses, if any, that has led to Girija’s death.

A case has been registered at Vittal police.
