Mangaluru: “After Priyanka Vadra’s entry into politics, Congress has got more power and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would face sleepless nights in the coming days”, said former union minister B Janardhana Poojary on Thursday, January 24.
Addressing the reporters at the auditorium of Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple, Poojary said, “Due to the welfare programmes of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, people still have love towards Gandhi family. Priyanka is the granddaughter of Indira Gandhi. People see Indira Gandhi in her face. Hence, the Congress party would receive support from many people. Party would give more power to Priyanka Gandhi in future”, he said.
When asked about Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra’s land scam case and whether it would have a negative bearing on Congress, Poojary said, “Though there is an allegation against Robert Vadra, it has not been proven yet. Hence, it would not affect Congress”, he said.
Poojary reiterated that he would like to contest the Lok Sabha election from Mangaluru constituency and he would meet Congress High Command shortly. “I will definitely contest the election if I get the ticket. If not, I will support that candidate which the party would select”, he said.
Responding to a query on a rumour that MLC Ivan D’Souza was trying to get the ticket for contesting the LS election, Poojary said, “Ironically, Ivan wants to have anything and everything prevailing in the entire world. “Despite Ivan’s efforts, the High Command would not give him a ticket. Knowing very well the Congress High Command, I am sure Ivan will not secure a ticket”, he stressed.
