Proposal for city’s first smart road finalised

Mangaluru: The Nehru Maidan Road will soon be revamped into the city’s first smart road. The Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) special purpose vehicle, has finalised its proposal for the development of the smart road.

The Nehru Maidan Road which connects Hampanakatta with Nehru Maidan, the DC’s office, the City Police Commissionerate and the main bus stand, will be provided with all the necessary infrastructure and beautification like streetscape designing, landscaping, intersection redesigning and infrastructure upgrading.

The other modifications to be made are widening of the road, stainless steel bus shelters with LED displays, outdoor wi-fi, e-toilets with LED, GPS connectivity, traffic signal poles, tiles, interlocks, dust bins, 180-watt LED street lights, grass lawns, shrubbery and irrigation lines and sprinklers for the lawn areas.

The existing road will be remain as is, while the new road is constructed.

Having received expressions of interest in the project, the MSCL will be floating tenders for the development of the smart road in February.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 7.5 Crore.
