Protest against assault on conductor affects commuters

Moodbdidri: Two days after a conductor was attacked by a group, the drivers and conductors stopped bus operations in the area and protested at Siddakatte and demanded immediate arrest of the accused on Thursday.
Bantwal rural, Punjalakatte and Moodbidri police rushed the place and brought situation under control. The protesters also gave a deadline of two days to arrest the accused. The protest was called off after police assured to arrest the accused at the earliest.

Two days back a private bus conductor was attacked by four men for trivial issue near Shantiraj colony. The bus driver Naveen was also threatened by the group. Based on it, complaint was registered at Moodbidri police station but the accused were not arrested. Enraged with police inaction, drivers and conductors from the area protested by stopping operations in the area.

The sudden decision of bus drivers to stop operations in the route affected students, workers and public. Students who had to attend exams on Thursday were stranded and had to hire private vehicles. Due to the protest exams were too postponed in few schools, it is learnt.

DySP Bhaskar Rai, Moodbidri Inspector Anantha Padmanabha, SI Rakshith, Lathesh Kumar tried to convince the protesters but their efforts went in vain.
