Mangaluru: Though MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had confidently announced that the inauguration of Pumpwell Circle will be held in the first week of January, the construction work has not been completed yet. With large extent of work still left to be completed, the much-awaited flyover inauguration has skipped yet another deadline!
The flyover work, which was started in September 2010 at an estimated cost of Rs 671 cr has skipped at least six deadlines so far and at present the half-built structure has become a muse for umpteen number of jokes and memes on social media.
Though the underpass at Ujjodi has been constructed, the work on the road above is still pending. The connective road towards Ujjodi and the retaining wall on both sides of the road are still pending.
Sources from the NHAI informed that the work has been accelerated and is in the final state. According to the officials, owing to the recent rainfall and curfew in Mangaluru, the work was delayed and the work will be completed in the next 15 to 20 days.
Fact-Finding Committee of Congress visits flyover spot
As another deadline of inaugurating flyover has been missed now, a Fact-Finding Committee of Congress headed by MLC Ivan D’Souza has paid visit to the flyover construction site on Tuesday, December 31. After visiting the place, Ivan D’Souza informed that MP Nalin Kumar has made a fool out of the public many times and the Congress will hold a mock inauguration of the flyover to show mirror to the MP.
“Though Nalin has promised to complete the work by the end of December and set January first week as a deadline for inaugurating the flyover, the work has not been completed so far. As per the opinion of project engineers, it will take at least another three months to complete the construction work. Hence, Congress party would hold a strong protest against the incomplete work of flyover and the negligence of Nalin Kumar Kateel on January 1 at around 4 pm. We will hold a mock inauguration of the flyover,” he said.
