Mangalore: Under the leadership of former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty, the members of the Karavali Jeevanadi Netravathi Rakshana Samithi organised a ‘rail roko’ protest at Kankanady railway station on Tuesday January 28 opposing the proposed Yettinahole project.
More than 50 members of the Samithi were among those who intercepted the Karwar – Bangalore bound train for 20 minutes agitating over the issue of Netravathi river diversion or Yettinahole project.
The protest was organised in the backdrop of reports that the foundation stone laying ceremony of the proposed project is scheduled to be held on January 31. The Samithi members urged the Union Government, Chief Minister and other authorities to drop the project.
Several leaders including P V Mohan, M G Hegde, Dennis D’Silva, T K Sudhir, Krithin Kumar, corporator Prakash, Ramanand Poojary, Suresh Shetty, Hemanth Garodi, Hussain Katipalla, Abdul Sattar, Jayakar Samarth and Nelson were present.
