Mangaluru: In a late night incident that occured on Thursday at Melkar few persons barged into the house of Sanjeeva Poojary, Bantwal Congress election campaign committee President and assaulted him as well as his wife.
The incident is said to have occured when Sanjeev, a close aide of district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai had arrived at his residence, accompanied by few party workers around 11:30pm after the campaigning activity.
The miscreants are said to have even stoned two vehicles, including a BMV car injuring the party workers present in the car at the time of the incident. The injured, including Sanjeeva were immediately rushed to the hospital
Sanjeeva, in his complaint filed with the Bantwal police has raised suspicion on the involvement of BJP leader Shrikanth Shetty and his supporters behind the assault.
The police are investigating the case. In the aftermath of the incident the police have upped the security in the communally sensitive area.
