Mangaluru: Close on heels of Saujanya’s parents alleging that the police and the CBI had not probed three persons, whose names were forwarded by the victim Saujanya’s family, Mallik Jain, Dheeraj Jain and Uday Jain voluntarily held a press meet and said that they were ready to undergo retests to prove their innocence.
Though parents of Saujanya had not named the three, the Jain trio held a press meet on Thursday in Mangaluru and said that they had undergone a series of tests as per orders of the CBI.
Mallik Jain said that the CBI Special Court in November 2016 had summoned the three. The police and the CBI interrogated them and hence they said that the allegations leveled by Saujanya’s parents were wrong.
Adding that he is still not able to understand the connection between them and the sensational rape and murder case, Dheeraj Jain said that they have still undergone DNA test, blood test, brain mapping, lie detector and other procedures of investigation.
“Our names were never linked to the case till about one year after the incident. It was in 2015 that our names were linked to this case,” he said adding that they are still ready to co-operate with the probe in all possible way.
Uday Jain is an auto driver by profession, who claimed to have not known Dheeraj and Mallik before they were made accused in the case.
Sowjanya, a 17-year-old pre-university course student of SDM?College, Ujjire in Dakshina Kannada, was raped and killed on her way back home from college on October 9, 2012. The Belthangady police had arrested one Santosh Rao in connection with the case. However, the locals and family members of the victim have been saying that influential persons were behind the case and that a mentally unstable Santhosh Rao has been falsely implicated in the case.
