Mulky: Renowned agriculturist and social activist Sanjeeva Shetty (88), passed away on Monday morning, at his residence in Shimantoor near here. He suffered a cardiac arrest, said sources close to the family.
A former member of Kilpady GP, Shetty had been actively fighting for social causes in the area and thus won the trust of the people of the vicinity.
A Kambala patron, he has himself participated in Kambala sport and supported the sport for its growth. He fought relentlessly to clear the encroachment of Madragudde lake and also won a legal battle for this cause.
He was honoured with ‘Uttama Krishika Prashashti’ by Shimanthoor temple considering his invaluable service to the field of agriculture.
His demise has been mourned by MLA Umanath Kotian, former minister Abhaychandra Jain and other dignitaries.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter.
