Mangaluru: “Researchers should focus on quality. Great research needs to go beyond the standards set by the University Grants Commission,” said Bengaluru Smart Academy Director Prof. M R Ranganath here on Wednesday, March 4.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a ten-day workshop on ‘Research Methods’ organised at the Mangalore University, Konaje. He said, “In order to come up with quality research, the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR), New Delhi is striving hard and budding researchers should utilise this opportunity properly. There was a shortage of research candidates in the past. But now, over 1.5 lakh people have registered themselves for research. Earlier, few women used to apply for research, but now, the women outnumber the men.
President of the programme, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof P S Yadapadithaya said, “A good researcher has a certain goal, discipline, care and commitment. Research should not be limited to degrees. Research is like a license for the next steps.”
