Mangaluru: Huge lorries which ferry fish from outside the state will be allowed to sell fish to the retailers at the old port area from Saturday, informed Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath on Monday, April 20.
After visiting the old port area along with MLA U T Khader, he informed that over 25 fish laden lorries come to Mangaluru regularly. “There was no space for them to sell fish to the retailers. Hence, a designated area has been identified for them in the old port, where retailers can purchase fish from them. However, this is meant only for the retailers and not the general public,” he said.
He added that retailers, while maintaining social distance, can make their purchases between 3 am and 8 am.
Later, the MLA visited the Central Market, old bus stand and Town Hall area and discussed the alternative arrangements for fruit and vegetable vendors.
Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar, Smart City Managing Director Mohammed Nazeer, Deputy Director of Fisheries Department Hareesh Kumar, Assistant Deputy Director Dileep Kumar, former mayor Ashraf K and others were present.
