Right wing activists file five complaints against Bhagwan

Mangaluru: Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists have filed five complaints against Kannada writer K S Bhagwan in different regions of the district, on Thursday.

Prof KS Bhagwan receives anonymous threat letter -1The complaints were filed in Kavoor, Moodbidri, Uppinangady and Vittala police stations for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Hindus, while delivering a speech at a function held in Gandhi Bhavan in Bengaluru on September 19.

The VHP has threatened to file more complaints against the writer.

Speaking to sources, Sharanappa S.D., Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, said that as the advocate’s complaint relates to a speech given in Bengaluru, they took permission of the local magistrate to transfer the case. Following permission, the case has been transferred to the High Grounds Police Station, Bengaluru.

Earlier on Wednesday, an FIR was registered against K S Bhagwan by a person named Shyam Sudarshan Bhat from Hosamoole in Belthangady. The case was registered at Uppinangady police station, under the charges stating that Bhagwan has made derogatory comments on Hinduism and Hindu Gods, and that he has hurt the religious sentiments of the people.

As per the complaint, Bhagwan, on September 19, addressing an audience during the Periyar anniversary celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan near Kumarakripa in Bengaluru, made extreme statements.
