Mangaluru: In a bid to ease the traffic burden on the main roads in Dakshina Kannada, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has informed that a ring road was being planned between Mulky and Thokkottu Junction via Kinnigoli, Kaikamba, Polali, B C Road and Mudipu. He also added that a detailed project (estimated at a cost of Rs 2800 crore) report regarding the same, was in the final stages.

The MP met with the officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and representatives of Stup Consultants, the consulting firm for the project, at his office on June 27. From his meeting with the officials, he gathered that the project would be completed in three phases. In the first phase, one of the representatives informed that the road would begin at Padupanambur near Mulky and will continue to Kateel via Kinnigoli, where a 1.5 km long over-bridge will be constructed. The road will then meet the National Highway 169 at the over-bridge at Kaikamba.

The second phase of the project will begin at Addur and will culminate at the new bridge at B C Road with an underpass made at the spot where the road intersects with National Highway 264. The road in the third phase will be laid between Melkar and Mudipu which will then reach Kotekar.

The MP stated that the total length of the road to be developed would be around 91 km but, considering that some of that stretch will include the national highways and bad roads, the real amount of roads to be developed will amount to 74 km.

The MP also informed that as the government wanted to minimise land acquisitions, they would be building over-bridges and underpasses only where absolutely necessary.

Speaking about the already existing roads, MP Kateel said that they too would have to be developed as they were not up to the set standards. He added that a road would be laid in front of the airport to facilitate easy access to the international airport.

MLAs Rajesh Naik Ulipady Guthu and Umanath Kotian were present at the press meet.
