Road to be named after Pejavar mutt seer; Official announcement on Jan 4

Udupi: As a tribute to the chief pontiff of Pejawar mutt Vishwesha Teertha Swami, the road connecting Kalsanka to Vadiraja road will be named after him.

The official announcement of the same will be made during the civic reception organized for him by the Udupi City Municipal Council at Car Street on Monday January 4.

Vishweshwa Teertha Swami will be brought to the town hall from Sharavu Mahaganapathi temple at 4 pm. Dakshina Kannada District In-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, Udupi District In-Charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader will be present among others. Cultural programmes will begin at the Town Hall from 3.30 pm, according to the General Secretary of Udupi Paryaya Samiti Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.

Vishweshwa Teertha Swami will be ascending the paryaya on January 18 for the fifth time. No seer of the Ashta Mutts (Eight mutts) of Udupi has ascended the Paryaya Peetha five times, since the biennial Paryaya system was introduced in 1522 A.D.

The Paryaya will be in the month of January next year. The 84-year-old Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swami ascended the peetha in the year 1952, 1968, 1984 and 2000.
