Mangaluru: The District 3181 of Rotary International on Wednesday, July 8, launched a YouTube channel christened ‘Water Is Life- Harvest Water’ in order to spread awareness about the importance of water and conservation of the resource.
Speaking on the occasion, Rtn Rajendra Kalbavi, who is the RI District 3181 Chairman for the Water Conservation Committee said that he will be offering free technical guidance for all individuals, institutions, factories and others in conservation and preservation methods. “To make this more effective, the launch of the YouTube channel will add more sense and will spread the information to a wider cross-section of society,” he added.
The channel was launched by RI District 3181 Governor Rtn Ranganath Bhat.
Every week, one video will be uploaded on different works done in the field of water conservation. A minimum of 25 episodes will be uploaded on the channel every year. This will be a continuous process where the works done by the common man, Government, NGOs etc. will be highlighted.
D. K. Nirmithi Kendra will support the venture in a technical capacity to prepare the videos and edit it to suit the public.

Water is an essential part of life, without which man cannot survive. According to recent studies, around 42 per cent of districts in India are affected by drought. Man is failing to understand the importance of water and its preservation techniques. Since the Rotary club has been working in the water conservation field from 2004, it has felt the need to spread awareness through all possible means like print, visual and social media.
Rotary International has identified six areas of focus to serve society. Water and sanitation is one of the major areas in which all Rotary members concentrate their service activities. In India, in 2003, all presidents of the Rotary Clubs joined and formed the ROTARY INDIA WATER MISSION. This mission started a trust by the name ROTARY INDIA WATER CONSERVATION TRUST. This trust has five focus areas attached to the acronym WATER. W-watershed development, A-awareness programs, T-transforming existing water bodies, E-Efficient use of water, R-Rainwater Harvesting methods. This trust has a tie-up with various Govt. and other industries to execute different developmental projects.
