Bantwal: Out of Rs 3000 crore aid from the Centre under State Highway development scheme, Rs 205 crores has been sanctioned for the development of roads in Dakshina Kannada, said District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai here on Saturday, July 23.
Laying foundation for the new road works at Surathkal-Kabaka near Punchame in Polali, Rai said that Rs 125 crores for Dakshina Kannada and Rs 80 crores for Udupi has been sanctioned.
“As advised by Infosys vice-president in 2010, I had made a proposal for the aid. We have been granted the aid for the road works now. I am happy that I have a role in the development of this region. Salethur-Vittal-Kabaka road will be developed at the cost of Rs 4 crores and the present road will be widened. In certain places, the road will be concretised and over 23 drains will be closed. Moreover, caution boards, crash barriers also will be installed. There is a plan to develop Shri Kshetra Polali Chendina Gadde with the support of tourism department,” said Rai.
In Benjanapadav, construction of Community hall is underway at the cost of Rs 1 crore. The land for a playground too is allotted for which a compound wall will soon be constructed. The construction of of Panjemangesharaya Bhavan and Ambedkar Bhavan will also be undertaken, he added.
District panchayath member Chandraprakash Shetty said, “In development works, Bantwal constituency is second in the State. It is due to the efforts and hardwork of Minister Ramanath Rai. When people join hands with the representatives, we can achieve overall development.”
Taluk panchayat members, political leaders and others were present on the occasion.
