Mangaluru: Counterfeit currency notes are generally made to look exactly like the originals. But what if the original notes and coins themselves look counterfeit? One such incident was reported from the coastal city recently when a person received a Rs 50 currency note that was comparatively longer than the standard size.
Vikram Nayak, a retired bank employee had received this note, that too while he was withdrawing the same from a nearby bank.
Speaking on this issue, he said that usually, the Rs 50 note is 13.5 cms long, but the note he received measured around 15 cms.
Vinayak said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) prints a limited set of currency notes every year under the standard size prescribed. But this, he says, was ‘unusual’. He opined that this might have happened due to a faulty printing process at the RBI.
