Sahyadri College students win ‘Best Freshers Award’ at IIT-Kharagpur

Mangaluru: The first year students of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management participated in KSHITIJ 2017-Asia’s Largest Techno-management fest held at IIT–Khargpur on 27, 28 and 29 of January.
They participated in three events, Conquest –To build a robot with Computer Vision Technology, Droid Blits – To build an amphibious bot which can travel both on land and water, Bricks – To build a robot which can segregate hollow and solid blocks. A team of 16 first year students participated in the event and bagged the Best Freshers Award for their outstanding performance in Kshitij 2017.

This team was the only team to solve the entire problem statement among premier institutes like IITs and NITs.

Best Freshers Award at IIT Kharagpur is being awarded for the third time in 13 years of Kshitij history. A total of 1500 engineering students participated all over the country from prestigious institutions. Speaking on the achievement in the very first year, one of the participants from Sahyadri College Jehad said, “Sahyadri College has been giving us a lot of exposure through hands on experience and social innovation which has helped us a lot in achieving this.”

The students were trained by Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd., a startup in Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Adyar.

Sahyadri Edu Dreamers R&D Pvt. Ltd. which is also called as DTlabz is a space which supports enthusiasts on innovation and technology. DTlabz also provided a makerspace for not only Sahyadrians but also students of other institutes without barrier of any age. DTlabz has won many accolades through their students.

Rishabh, a 8th Std student of Canara High School won the first prize in a Robotic event in the Amateur Scientist event held at Pesit College in Bangalore. Navajith and his team won the Best Young Innovators for their Smart Electronic Helmet at India Innovative Institute organised by DST at IIT Delhi. John Nikhil, Sujay Shetty and Suraj have also received appreciation from A B Ibrahim, former DC – Mangalore for their aerial videography of Mangalore.

Apart from this, DTlabz has also organised summer camps, monsoon camps, workshops for students to bring out innovations.
