Bantwal: Thumbe Dam Santhrasthara Horata Samiti has written to the Prime Minister demanding a judicious compensation or agriculture land in lieu for the land that have been acquired for the Thumbe Vented Dam project.

The Committee members have said that the MCC officials, elected representatives of the area and other officials concerned had told the local families that only four mts of water would be collected in the dam, where as about 11 mts of water has been collected in the dam due to which large expanse of agriculture land have gone submerged.

As against the promise that the new dam would be put to use only after providing proper compensation to the families, the Committee members said that even this promise has been broken.

Letter written by Samiti President M Subrahmanya Bhat has spoken eloquently about all the issues pertaining to the new vented dam.

In the letter Bhat had stated that the local administration had assured in 2004 that the dam would be used only after providing proper compensation to the land losers.

However, this has not been done and now the farmers are being suppressed. After the dam has been put to use vast expanse of fertile agriculture land, beyond the stipulated area have been submerged, which again stands in contradiction to the initial declaration of the district administration.

Bhat has requested the PM to intervene and make sure that justice is made to the farmers.
